August, 1937, the present cholera epidemic, I have
the honour to submit a second report showing the progress
of the epidemic up to the week ending the 4th. September,
1937.
All the measures taken for the prevention of the
spread of the disease in the Colony that were mentioned
in my first report are still being car ied out.
To recapitulate:-
innoculation;
Isolation of all cases; mass
inspection of all passengers arriving in
Hong Kong by steamer or by rail; legislation; special
inspedtion of the poorer class eating houses and publit
latrines.

The number of cases that occurred during the week
ending 28th. August, was greater than was originally
anticipated. It is considered that the increase was due
to the tremendous influx of Chinese refugees from the South
China ports during the previous week.
Number of cases.
For the week ending 28th.August, there were 380 cases, 271 death

All the cases have been Chinese, mainly of the
poorer classes, with the single exception of a British case,-
an engineer on a Canton boat, who is now convalescent.
On the 27th. August, I was visited by Dr. C.L.Park,
Director Eastern Bureau of the Health Section of the League
of Nations, Singapore, and Dr. B. Borcic, Health Organization
of the League of Nations, Shanghai, the latter returning
from the Java Jonference. We discussed in detail all the
aspects of the epidemic, and I afforded them every facility
for seeing what was being done here.
